Copic Painting

Though a bit old picture, I'm painting like this.

1. First of all, draw lines on the comic book paper (kent paper, 135kg). Copy paper, drawing paper, or sketch book may be not suitable because the surface isn't smooth for pen, weak for erasure, easy to bleed for copic, weak for overpainting. the comic book paper (high-quality, 135kg) may be also good, but it absorbs a lot of ink than kent paper, consume copic faster, so I recommend kent paper even if a bit expensive. My favorite is Deleter's BK type (40 sheets / \600yen).

2. Paint the skin with E000 and R00. At first fill all area with E000, and then overpaint shadow area (about 30%) with R00. If you prefer light color, filling all area with E0000 instead of E000 is more suitable. But please be careful light color can't be scanned well if you scan to digital machine.

3. Decide each person's image color, and paint hair and clothing. In this sample, for ease, one person has one image color, which is, the left girl is yellow, and the right girl is pink. Yellow girl is painted with E30, E43, Y15, YR14. Pink girl is painted with RV91, RV32, RV34. First paint with light color, and then paint dark color while adjusting color balance. White shirt's shodow can be seen as a bit blue than neutral gray under daylight, so paint with N1 and B91, or C1 is suitable.

4. Paint back ground. Grass and leaf is painted with G12, G24 and YG63、trunk with E30 and E43, mountain with BG70 and N1, sky with BG70, B91 and B93. At first fill with light color. For avoiding to get strong background than person, overpainting is not so recommended. A long-distance view such as mountains or sky can be seen as very low chroma for moisture, so you'd better to fill with such as BG70 (Ocean Mist). And short-distance mountain gets clearer and darker. Also center of the sky is misty even if the wether is fine, and neighboring part of the sky gets harder blue. For painting large area with light color, copic's marker head (flatten) can be also used. If getting too high chroma, by overpainting a bit with N1, you can get lower chroma.
