Absolute Pitch

Also called "Perfect pitch". I've drawn an absolute pitch typical story karuta.

absolute pitch typical story (あ~と)

absolute pitch typical story (な~も)

absolute pitch typical story (ら~ん)

Although it depends on the definition of absolute pitch (also called perfect pitch in other word), I hear that it indicates an ability to recognize C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, and B without comparing the other sound. The moment that I noticed I have an absolut pitch was when I started using an alto recorder in junior high school. I was wondering why other people can play easily such a crazy musical instruments that comes C key when blowing G key. After all, I barely used it while converting the musical score from C-major to G-major in real-time in my brain. (I was saved because the instrument is only one voice.)

By the way, searching how many percentage of whole people have an absolute pitch, one data shows 0.01%. The data showing higher value is based on music university students or music educated people such as piano lessons, so it seems low reliability as a whole people's data. It is mysterious why someone like me who was given an ordinary and poor life have such an abosolute pitch, despite I'm not music university student or music educated person such as piano lessons. Perhaps, since I taked down RPG's music on the paper so much in my childhood, so I got absolute pitch.

F.A.Q

This section is in case of me.

Catching a cold or having high fever breaks your absolute pitch ?

No. But the sensitivity of high frequency gets down, it sounds like hollowly, so if you don't have an absolute pitch, maybe you sound like as if the pitch is downed.

Does the flaveric brake your absolute pitch ?
flaveric

Yes. While keeping the flaveric's effect, all sound can be heard as about 50cent ~ half picth downed. When the flaveric's effect ends, it recovers. According to flaveric's guide, as a side effect, there is a description "auditory abnormalities". By the way, hustazol, which has almost the same effect as flaveric, this phenomenon doesn't occur. For human who has only relative pitch, they doesn't notice that all sound is half pitch downed, but I hear that human who playes musical instrument and who remember the sound often notices it.

For human who has absolute pitch, the world that all pitch is heard half downed is fearful, feel like no longer this world. For humans who doesn't have absolute pitch users, in other word, it can be explained that the world that you can hear as "ABCDE" becomes the other world that you can hear as "BCDEF".

Even if while an operation, the absolute pitch is available ?

Yes. As long as retaining consciousness, it's available (except ear's operation). But, the body is paralyzed, so only can recognize in the brain. I can't move the finger to indicate it.

Do you have a synesthesia?

Yes, but a bit. For me, C=red, D=yellow, E=green, F=orange, G=blue, A=purple, B=white. I hear that this pettern is particular for Japanese people, perhaps I was affected "doremi's song". Also, according to the book "absolute pitch", there is a description that it is because there was a toy whose each keys painted so.

Do you have the HSAM?

No. But whenever I hear a sound, I can make a score in my brain and move the finger, so I think it is comparatively easier to memorize the music. But, I'm not good at memorizing subjects, it is hard to memorize, and it is fast to forget.

How do you hear the tone that doesn't correspond to any of C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A# or B, such as the tone between C and C# ?

I hear it as the nearest tone like vaguely raised C or downed C#. I'd been using a radio-cassette player whose speed is significantly inaccurate and whose wow flutter is significantly high, so ±3 percent (50cent)'s error is not so serious for me. But I think such a machine is highly bad sound quality.
